Social media users expressed their sadness after Britney Spears revealed in her new memoir that Justin Timberlake pressured her to have an abortion when she was 19.

Spears and Timberlake 1999-2002. The memoir, titled “The Woman in Me,” details Spears’ “stories of freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith and hope.” The release date is scheduled for October 24, 2023. People magazine released an excerpt from the book detailing Spears and Timberlake’s pregnancy.

“It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated.”

“But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young.”

“If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father.”

Spears later described the miscarriage as “one of the most painful experiences of her life.”

“To this day, it’s one of the most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life.”

Social media was flooded with reactions outpouring their grief for her loss.

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America issued a statement for Spears, saying “I stand with every woman who has had an unnecessary abortion.”

“Our hearts go out to Britney Spears and all women who have suffered unwanted abortions,” the statement said. “She suffered the loss of her child for 20 years and described it as one of the most painful events of her life.”

“We hope that Britney’s courage in sharing her deep trauma will give other women the courage to speak out about forced abortion,” the SBA said. “We should all agree that no woman should have an abortion she doesn’t want.”

40 Days for Life also commented on Spears’ story.

Britney Spears’ comments on abortion reveal a harsh reality. Decisions are often not only in the hands of women. “If it was me, I would never do it.” Men, it’s time to step up and take responsibility.”

Some users speculated that Spears’ 2003 “Every Time” video was about her miscarried child. Many people thought he wrote the song about Timberlake. However, the final part of the video shows Spears watching a young woman give birth in a hospital. The video then ends with a close-up of the newborn. (Warning: Video contains graphic content.)

“What have I done?
You seem to move uneasy.”

“Please, forgive me / My weakness caused you pain / And this song’s my sorry.”

“Every time I see you in my dreams / I see your face / You’re haunting me / I guess I need you, baby.”

Hear every woman scream
She had an abortion and was mourning her child. please forgive him
Return him to your mercy
The sadness in his heart is still
With peace that passes all understanding.

Through the intercession of the Virgin Mary,
All the tenderness and our mother,
Build her confidence in you. Give him comfort he can trust
Her child now dwells with the Lord.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.
He who conquered sin and death,
Who will live and reign with you?
Through the unity of the Holy Spirit
One God forever. Amen.
