    James Darren, a beloved actor and singer, has passed away at the age of 88. He was widely recognized for his memorable performances in classic films like Gidget and TV shows such as T.J. Hooker and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. According to reports from TMZ, Darren passed peacefully in his sleep at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles on Monday.

     

    While the exact cause of his death is not yet clear, Darren’s son, Jim Moret, shared that his father had been struggling with heart problems. Darren had been receiving care at the cardiac unit of Cedars-Sinai, where he initially sought treatment for an aortic valve replacement. However, doctors determined that he was not strong enough for the surgery at that time. After being sent home, he was rehospitalized shortly before his passing.

    Jim Moret fondly remembered his father, saying, “I always thought he would pull through, because he was so cool. He was always cool.”

    A Teen Heartthrob and Hollywood Icon

    James Darren first became a household name as a teen heartthrob with his portrayal of Moondoggie in the 1959 film Gidget. His charm and appeal won over audiences, leading him to reprise the role in two sequels, Gidget Goes Hawaiian and Gidget Goes to Rome. These films cemented his place in Hollywood history, and his fans fondly remember him as the epitome of youthful allure.

    Beyond Gidget, Darren’s acting career spanned several decades, with notable roles in television. He portrayed the sharp and charismatic police officer Jim Corrigan on the popular show T.J. Hooker. His role in T.J. Hooker lasted for four seasons, and he appeared in 66 episodes, becoming a key figure in the show’s success.

    While Darren was best known for his acting, he also had a successful music career. He gained further recognition for his performance of the catchy theme song for Gidget, which became a memorable tune for fans of the film. Darren’s talents weren’t limited to acting and singing; he also ventured into directing, helming episodes of popular TV series such as Melrose Place, Beverly Hills, 90210, and The A-Team.
