Melanie Hamrick, 37, has made it clear that she doesn’t let public opinions about her relationship with 81-year-old music legend Mick Jagger affect her happiness. Speaking to The Sunday Times, the former ballerina shared her thoughts on the 44-year age difference between them.
“I don’t think about it,” Hamrick stated firmly. “Everyone’s going to have their opinion. If you think about others’ opinions, no matter where you are in life, you’re going to have a problem and you’re going to analyze it.”
She emphasized her contentment with their relationship, adding, “Am I happy? Yes. Are the people in my life happy? Yes. Am I hurting anyone? No. OK, they can mind their own business.”
From Ballet to Love
Hamrick’s background as a professional ballerina has shaped much of her perspective. She met Jagger in 2014 during a Rolling Stones concert in Tokyo when she was 26. Surprisingly, she wasn’t particularly starstruck by the encounter.
“Ballet dancers meet some of the biggest stars and act, like, ‘Who are you?’” she explained. “Because, to us, ballet dancers are the gods. That’s who you study and look up to. You’re so in your world.”

In 2016, the couple welcomed their son, Deveraux. Hamrick openly expressed her joy at becoming a mother, sharing her love for her child on social media shortly after his birth.
Balancing motherhood and her career as a dancer proved challenging. In 2019, Hamrick decided to retire from the American Ballet Theatre after a successful career. She admitted to The New York Times that it was difficult to stay fully committed to dance while managing her responsibilities as a mother.
“I feel like superwoman some days, and other days I feel like I’m just keeping my head above water,” she shared. “I’ve done enough ‘Swan Lakes.’ It’s OK.”
More Than Just a Partner
Hamrick has also pursued other creative endeavors, releasing her debut novel First Position last year.
On the Today show, she highlighted that her identity goes beyond being Jagger’s partner, emphasizing that they are “very supportive of each other’s ventures and work.”
A Life Beyond Public Perception
Mick Jagger, known for his long-standing career with The Rolling Stones, was previously in a relationship with fashion designer L’Wren Scott until her passing in 2014. He has seven other children from past relationships.
Despite public scrutiny, Hamrick remains unbothered by outsiders’ judgments. Her journey reflects a steadfast focus on living authentically, pursuing her passions, and creating a fulfilling life with her partner and child, regardless of societal expectations.
