In a somber turn of events, we bid farewell to Bill Hayes, the legendary actor known for his iconic role as Doug Williams on the long-running soap opera Days of Our Lives. Hayes passed away peacefully at the age of 98, as confirmed by People magazine.

A Central Figure in Television History

For over fifty years, Bill Hayes brought the character of Doug Williams to life, becoming an integral part of the show’s enduring legacy. The role became synonymous with the Williams-Horton family, and Hayes’ portrayal etched his name into the annals of television history.

Ken Corday, the executive producer of Days of Our Lives, expressed the profound impact Hayes had on the series, stating, “Bill was not just an actor; he embodied the heart and soul of ‘Days of Our Lives.’ Though we grieve and will miss him immensely, Bill’s indomitable legacy will thrive in our hearts and the tales we continue to weave, both on and off the screen.”

A Celebration of Life and Legacy

Last summer, Bill Hayes celebrated his 98th birthday surrounded by his fellow cast members. The occasion was marked with a personalized cake featuring a youthful photograph of Hayes and the inscription, “Happy Birthday Bill.” His beloved wife, Susan Seaforth-Hayes, also attended the celebration. Susan, a prominent television figure herself, shared the notable fact that Bill was the first person to ever sing on daytime television, a historic milestone. The cast and crew serenaded him with “Happy Birthday,” a testament to the deep respect and affection he garnered from those around him.

A touching video of the celebration was posted on the couple’s joint Instagram account, expressing gratitude to the Days of Our Lives family for commemorating Hayes’ birthday on the set that had become his second home.

    A Legacy That Transcends Screens

In 2018, Bill Hayes was honored with the Daytime Emmy’s Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his exceptional contributions to Days of Our Lives. Beyond his on-screen achievements, Hayes’ personal life also mirrored his television romance. He and Susan Seaforth-Hayes first crossed paths on the show, with their on-screen kiss in July 1970 blossoming into a real-life romance. They married in October 1974 and celebrated their love with a second wedding on October 1, 1976.

Bill Hayes leaves behind a loving legacy cherished by fans and colleagues alike. His son, William Foster Hayes IV, continues to carry forward the torch of his father’s remarkable acting career.

As we say goodbye to this beloved star, we reflect on the significant mark he left on Days of Our Lives and the hearts of millions of viewers worldwide. Bill Hayes, a true icon, will forever be remembered both on and off the screen.
