Doug Sheehan, the actor best known for his work on the iconic soap opera General Hospital, has passed away at the age of 75. Sheehan’s death was confirmed by the Kane Funeral Home in Wyoming, which announced that he died “peacefully at his home on Saturday morning, June 29, 2024, with his loving wife at his side.” Details regarding the cause of his death have not been disclosed.

Breakout Role on General Hospital and Emmy Nomination

A California native, Sheehan first appeared on television in 1978 with a role on Charlie’s Angels. However, his breakout role came in 1979 when he was cast as lawyer Joe Kelly on General Hospital. Sheehan’s portrayal of Joe Kelly captivated audiences, and in 1982, he earned a Daytime Emmy nomination in the category of Outstanding Actor in a Supporting Role in a Daytime Drama Series.

Transition to Knots Landing and Later Work

Following his time on General Hospital, Sheehan joined the cast of the Dallas spinoff Knots Landing in 1983. He portrayed reporter Ben Gibson, who eventually became the second husband to Valene Ewing (played by Joan Van Ark). Sheehan remained on the show until 1988 before moving on to other projects.

He starred as stockbroker Brian Harper on the NBC sitcom Day by Day, which aired for two seasons. His versatile talent allowed him to make memorable appearances in a variety of TV shows such as MacGyver, Diagnosis Murder, Columbo, Cheers, and Clueless.

    Film Career and Final Roles

Sheehan’s film career included appearances in several notable films, including the 1979 comedy 10, 1982’s Victor/Victoria, and 1995’s Cops n Roberts. His last on-screen appearances were in guest roles on What I Like About You, starring Amanda Bynes and Jennie Garth, and Sabrina the Teenage Witch, featuring Melissa Joan Hart.

    Legacy and Tributes from Fans

Following his passing, fans of Sheehan’s work expressed their sadness on social media. One user on X (formerly Twitter) shared, “He hadn’t been on General Hospital in 42 years, and the fans never forgot him and never stopped asking for his return. Not only is it impressive, but a testament to Doug Sheehan.” Another fan wrote, “Very sad to hear that actor Doug Sheehan, whom I enjoyed very much on Knots Landing and who was also on General Hospital, has died. He was 75 years old.”

Doug Sheehan’s impressive career and enduring impact on fans will ensure his legacy in the world of television and beyond.
