Mark Consuelos, at 51, recently shared that while he has no plans to have more children, he eagerly looks forward to becoming a grandfather in the future. During a candid conversation with his wife, Kelly Ripa, on her new podcast Let’s Chat Off Camera with Kelly Ripa, the actor reflected on his role as a father and what the next chapter might hold.
No More Kids, But Excited for Grandparenting
In a sneak peek from the podcast, Ripa asked Consuelos if he would consider remarrying if something happened to her. Consuelos responded that he would not remarry, as he has no interest in having more children. He stated clearly, “I don’t want any more children. I’ll be the older father.”
The conversation then shifted to the topic of older men having children later in life, with Ripa pointing out that many older men she knows are just starting to have kids. However, Consuelos was content with having had his children earlier, saying, “I did it early. That was not my intention, but we were quite fortunate in doing so when we did.”
Reflecting on Early Parenthood
Consuelos and Ripa share three children: Michael, 25, Lola, 21, and Joaquin, 20. Reflecting on their parenting journey, Consuelos admitted that, in hindsight, he might have liked more time as a couple before having children but still feels fortunate about the timing. He said, “I thought it was a little early. We should have had at least a year or two to ourselves. But now, I’m looking forward to being a grandfather. That’s about all the parenting I desire.”
Kelly Ripa’s Pride in Their Children
Ripa, who shares her husband’s sentiment about raising their children early, recently celebrated Joaquin’s 20th birthday. She honored the milestone by sharing throwback photos on her Instagram Story and remarked on her morning talk show Live with Kelly and Ryan how fast time has flown by. She reflected on her children’s growth, saying, “It’s only a flash. It’s only a minute.”
Ryan Seacrest, her co-host, praised both Ripa and Consuelos for successfully raising three wonderful children. Ripa expressed her gratitude, noting how glad she was to have completed the parenting journey when they did, as it allowed them to watch their children become adults.
