Zoey, a vivacious and lively little girl, faced a heartbreaking tragedy at just three years old. A devastating illness turned her world upside down, but her loving family remained steadfast, determined to support her every step of the way.
A Devastating Diagnosis
The turning point came when Zoey tripped while playing, losing control of both hands. Her family rushed her to the hospital, where they received the heart-wrenching news: Zoey had been diagnosed with DIPG, an extremely rare and aggressive brain tumor. This diagnosis felt like a death sentence for the young girl who had brought so much joy to those around her.
The Fight for Life
Despite the overwhelming diagnosis, Zoey’s family discovered strength within themselves. Over the next two years, Zoey underwent numerous cancer treatments, including a promising radiation therapy in Germany. Although her condition eventually worsened, her family’s unwavering support and love never faltered.
A Bittersweet Farewell
On July 4, 2018, Zoey peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by her family. It was a heartbreaking moment for her parents, Casey and Ben, but they took solace in the beautiful memories they created together in her final days.
In a poignant act of bravery, Casey chose to share one of their last moments as a family on Facebook, highlighting the love and beauty that permeated their lives despite the pain. The touching photo captures Casey and Ben embracing on the couch with their family dog, singing Disney songs and watching a Harry Potter movie, enveloped in a sense of peace. In that serene atmosphere, Zoey quietly slipped away.
“I wanted a photo like that taken. I wanted those moments captured so I can remember them forever, even when my brain is gone,” Casey reflected.
Honoring Zoey’s Memory
In honor of their beloved daughter, Casey and her family started a Facebook page called “Zoey’s Light,” aiming to spread hope and love to the world. They aspire to inspire others to support one another and approach each day with love and gratitude. Though Zoey’s light may have vanished, her spirit lives on, reminding us all to cherish the ordinary moments that make life extraordinary.
